Original Tractor Cab Hard Top Cab Enclosure

New hard top cab enclosure that will fit the 318 lawn and garden tractors & 316 with Onan engine. Installation time will take roughly three to four hours. There will be no holes to drill, the cab mounts use existing holes.  Cab height = 72"

Fully enclosed cab with an ABS plastic hard top. Clear shatter resistant Lexan plastic is used in the rear curtain, side doors and the windshield for maximum visibility. The Lexan windshield can easily be replaced with the optional safety glass windshield, which is available for purchase separately. Forward inclination of the windshield minimizes glare and contact with falling snow and rain. Doors are hinged with latches so getting in and out of the cab is easy and quick.

This hard top cab enclosure is not a genuine Deere item. It is manufactured by one of the leading aftermarket cab, canopy and sunshade manufacturers. It is made in the USA. It carries a one-year warranty.

John Deere 316 318 Hardtop Cab 11299

Keep working when rain, snow, sleet, and cold wind move in with Original Tractor Cab Hardtop Cab 11299. This model-fit weather enclosure is made for the John Deere 318 and the John Deere 316 with an Onan engine.

A molded ABS hardtop gives the operator solid cover from above. Meanwhile, clear shatter-resistant Lexan panels help close the front, sides, and rear. Therefore, Cab 11299 turns an open garden tractor into a more protected machine for cold and wet weather.

Normal installation takes about three to four hours. Better yet, the cab uses holes that already exist on the tractor. So, normal installation does not require drilling new mounting holes.

Original Tractor Cab makes Hardtop Cab 11299 in the USA. It is an aftermarket weather enclosure and is not a genuine John Deere OEM cab.

Hardtop Cab 11299 for John Deere 316 and 318 Garden Tractors

The John Deere 316 and 318 remain useful garden tractors many years after they left production. However, their open operator stations leave the driver exposed to changing weather.

Cold wind can make snow removal hard. Likewise, rain and sleet can turn a simple outdoor job into a wet one.

Cab 11299 adds practical weather protection around the operator. As a result, owners can get more seasonal use from these classic John Deere tractors.

John Deere 316 Cab Fit

Cab 11299 fits the John Deere 316 when the tractor uses an Onan engine. This engine detail is important when you check fit.

John Deere used Onan engines in the 316 covered by this cab application. However, an old tractor may have received an engine swap or other changes during its life.

Therefore, inspect the engine and tractor before you order.

John Deere 318 Cab Fit

Original Tractor Cab also designed Cab 11299 for the John Deere 318 garden tractor. The model-specific frame follows the shape and mounting layout of this classic Deere machine.

That fit gives the 318 owner a practical way to add a hardtop weather enclosure without replacing the tractor. Moreover, it keeps the tractor useful for winter jobs.

Always confirm that your machine still has the expected factory layout.

Fully Enclosed John Deere Weather Cab

Cab 11299 surrounds the operator with a roof and clear enclosure panels. Thus, the driver gets far more weather coverage than the original open station gives.

The hard roof protects from above. At the same time, clear front, side, and rear panels help reduce direct exposure from several directions.

The enclosure is not sealed like an automobile. Still, it can make a major difference during bad weather.

John Deere 316 and 318 Rain Protection

Rain can soak an operator fast on an open garden tractor. Cab 11299 helps keep much of that rain outside the operator area.

The ABS roof blocks water from above. Meanwhile, the clear panels help reduce wind-driven rain from the front, sides, and rear.

Some moisture may enter through normal cab openings.

John Deere 316 and 318 Snow Protection

Snow removal is one of the main reasons to add a cab to an older garden tractor. Falling snow can cover the operator while wind can push loose snow back toward the seat.

Cab 11299 helps create a barrier around the driver. Therefore, a compatible 316 or 318 can become a more comfortable winter work machine.

Keep every clear panel free from frost and snow before moving.

Protection From Sleet

Sleet can hit exposed skin and clothing while you work. In addition, wind can drive frozen moisture toward the operator from several directions.

The roof and enclosure panels help reduce that direct exposure. So, the cab can make cold and wet jobs easier to handle.

Stop work when ice makes travel unsafe.

Protection From Cold Wind

Wind can make a cold day feel much worse. Cab 11299 helps reduce direct airflow around the driver.

As a result, the operator gets a more sheltered work area. However, outside air can still enter through normal gaps.

Dress for the true outdoor temperature.

Molded ABS Plastic Hardtop

A molded ABS plastic hardtop forms the roof of Cab 11299. This solid roof gives the operator firm overhead weather coverage.

Rain, snow, and sleet first meet the roof instead of falling directly on the driver. In addition, the hardtop provides shade from overhead sun.

Never use the roof as a cargo rack or work platform.

Hardtop Protection for Winter Work

A solid roof can be very useful during snow removal. Falling snow lands on the hardtop while the operator works below it.

Likewise, cold rain is kept away from the top of the operator area. Therefore, the ABS roof forms an important part of the full enclosure.

Remove heavy snow from the cab before storage when needed.

Clear Shatter-Resistant Lexan Windshield

Cab 11299 includes a clear Lexan windshield. This material is light, transparent, and shatter resistant.

A clear forward view matters during every job. It becomes even more important when a blade, snowblower, mower, or other attachment is in use.

Clean the windshield before each job.

Forward-Inclined Windshield

The windshield slopes forward. Original Tractor Cab uses this design to help reduce glare and contact with falling rain and snow.

That angle can help the operator maintain a better view during poor weather. Still, frost and wet snow may need to be removed during a long job.

Never move the tractor when the forward view is blocked.

Optional Safety-Glass Windshield

Owners can replace the standard Lexan windshield with an optional safety-glass windshield. This gives the cab another front-window choice.

Glass can be useful for owners who work often in winter weather. Moreover, a compatible glass windshield allows use of certain cab accessories.

Confirm the current accessory fit before ordering.

Clear Lexan Side Doors

The side doors use clear shatter-resistant Lexan. Therefore, the operator gets weather coverage without losing the view beside the tractor.

Side visibility matters when working near a garage, fence, tree, vehicle, or other object. The clear doors help the driver watch those areas.

Always look in the direction of travel.

Hinged Doors With Latches

Cab 11299 uses hinged doors with latches. So, getting into and out of the operator area is simple.

Open each door fully before entering. Then, close and latch it as the cab instructions direct.

Inspect the hinges and latches during normal cab care.

Clear Rear Curtain

A clear Lexan rear curtain helps close the back of the operator area. At the same time, it lets the driver see behind the tractor.

That rear view matters when backing or checking an attachment. Meanwhile, the panel helps reduce wind and blowing snow entering behind the seat.

Keep the rear panel clean and free from scratches.

No-Drill Cab Installation

Original Tractor Cab designed Cab 11299 to use holes that already exist on the tractor. Therefore, normal installation does not require drilling new holes.

This model-fit approach helps keep installation simple. It also avoids needless changes to a classic John Deere tractor.

Use the current Cab 11299 instructions during every step.

About Three to Four Hours to Install

Original Tractor Cab lists normal installation time at about three to four hours. Actual time can vary with tools, skill, and tractor condition.

First, park the tractor on a clean and level surface. Next, identify the cab parts and hardware before assembly.

Correct fit matters more than speed.

Model-Fit Cab Mounting System

Cab 11299 uses mounting parts made for the listed John Deere tractors. These parts position the frame, doors, clear panels, and roof around the operator station.

An older tractor may have been changed during years of use. Consequently, replacement seats, controls, body parts, or owner modifications can affect cab clearance.

Stop installation if a part does not fit as the manual shows.

Approximate Cab Height of 72 Inches

Original Tractor Cab lists Cab 11299 at about 72 inches high. Actual finished height can change with tire size, tire pressure, and tractor setup.

A cab also changes the tractor's upper profile. Therefore, a doorway or branch that once cleared the open tractor may strike the roof.

Measure your completed tractor before passing below low objects.

Check Garage and Trailer Clearance

Many older garden tractors are stored in garages and sheds. Cab 11299 can add height where none existed before.

So, measure doors, trailer openings, and storage areas. Leave added clearance instead of relying only on the listed cab height.

Never guess when overhead space is tight.

Cab 11299 for Snowblower Work

A John Deere 316 or 318 can be a useful snow machine when equipped with compatible equipment. Yet snowblower work can send fine snow into the air.

Wind may then push that snow toward the operator. Cab 11299 helps place a weather barrier around the seat.

Therefore, the enclosure can add real comfort during a long snow job.

Cab 11299 for Front Blade Work

A front blade can help move snow from drives and lanes. However, that work often takes place during cold and windy weather.

The cab helps reduce direct wind around the operator. Meanwhile, the clear windshield lets the driver watch the area ahead.

Slow down on ice and packed snow.

Cab 11299 for Fall and Spring Work

A weather cab is useful beyond winter. Cold fall rain can make leaf cleanup unpleasant.

Spring can bring the same mix of wind and wet weather. Thus, Cab 11299 can add useful coverage during several seasons.

Allow enough airflow when outdoor temperatures rise.

Cab 11299 and Mowing

The 316 and 318 were built to handle mowing as well as other garden tractor jobs. The hardtop can provide overhead shade during suitable warm-weather use.

However, a full enclosure can hold heat. Therefore, follow the cab manual for approved panel use and ventilation.

Never operate when heat or poor airflow makes conditions unsafe.

The Cab Is Not a Debris Shield

Mower blades can throw stones, sticks, and other material. Cab 11299 is not a certified impact or debris enclosure.

So, inspect the mowing area before you start. Keep all mower guards and shields in their correct positions.

Never depend on a clear cab panel to stop thrown debris.

Care for Cab 11299 Clear Panels

Clear plastic needs gentle care. First, rinse loose dust and grit from the Lexan surface.

Next, use mild soap, clean water, and a soft cloth. Avoid harsh solvents, abrasive cleaners, and rough towels.

Good care helps preserve a clear view.

Inspect the Cab Before Work

A short inspection can find a loose part before it becomes a larger problem. Check the roof, frame, doors, latches, mounting hardware, and clear panels.

Also, sit in the operator position and move each tractor control. No cab part should block normal control movement.

Correct any problem before use.

Remove Flexible Panels for Open Transport

The Cab 11299 assembly manual warns owners to remove the vinyl panels before transport in an open truck or trailer.

Road speed can create much greater wind force than normal tractor operation. Therefore, open transport can damage flexible enclosure parts if the manual is not followed.

Prepare the cab for transport before loading the tractor.

Weather Protection, Not Accident Protection

Cab 11299 was made to help protect the operator from weather. It was not made to serve as a rollover, collision, or impact safety structure.

The Original Tractor Cab manual warns that the enclosure will not protect the operator from injuries caused by rollover, collision, or other accidents.

Always operate the tractor as the John Deere manual directs.

Cab 11299 Is Not Falling-Object Protection

The ABS hardtop gives overhead weather cover. It does not make the tractor a certified falling-object-protected machine.

Avoid unstable branches, suspended loads, and other overhead hazards. Likewise, never use the roof as a shield from falling objects.

Weather protection and impact protection are different things.

John Deere 316 and 318 Garden Tractor Specifications

The John Deere 316 and 318 belong to Deere's classic 300 Series garden tractor family. Both machines were built in Horicon, Wisconsin.

The 318 entered production for the 1983 model year. Meanwhile, the Onan-powered 316 followed as a related garden tractor and remained in production through 1992.

Both tractors use gasoline engines and hydrostatic drive.

John Deere 316 With Onan Engine

The John Deere 316 covered by Cab 11299 uses an Onan gasoline engine. Deere used two main Onan engine versions during this tractor's production.

Early machines use the Onan B43E. Later tractors use the Onan P218G.

Therefore, exact engine specifications depend on the tractor serial range.

Early John Deere 316 Onan B43E Engine

The early Onan B43E is a two-cylinder, air-cooled gasoline engine. It uses an opposed-twin layout.

Engine displacement is about 709 cc, or 43.3 cubic inches. Published gross output is about 16 horsepower.

This engine was used before the later P218G version.

Later John Deere 316 Onan P218G Engine

Later John Deere 316 tractors use the Onan P218G. This is also a two-cylinder, air-cooled opposed-twin gasoline engine.

Displacement is about 781 cc, or 47.7 cubic inches. Published gross output is about 18 horsepower.

The later engine began with the applicable 1987 production change.

John Deere 316 Hydrostatic Transmission

The John Deere 316 uses a shaft-driven hydrostatic transmission. Thus, the operator can vary travel speed without shifting through a normal set of gears.

Hydrostatic drive works well for mowing, snow work, and other jobs that need frequent speed changes.

The transmission provides continuously variable forward and reverse travel.

John Deere 316 Drive and Steering

The 316 is a two-wheel-drive garden tractor. Its steering system is manual on the Onan-powered model.

That setup is one difference between the 316 and the more fully equipped 318. Still, both tractors share the same basic heavy garden tractor layout.

Use proper front and rear ballast for each attachment.

John Deere 316 Fuel Capacity

Published specifications list the John Deere 316 fuel tank at about 4.5 U.S. gallons, or 17 liters.

The tractor uses gasoline. Therefore, shut the engine off and let hot parts cool before refueling.

Clean spilled fuel before restarting.

John Deere 316 Dimensions

The John Deere 316 has a wheelbase of about 46 inches. Published tractor length is about 69.5 inches.

Width is about 43 inches, while height at the open tractor is roughly 44 to 45 inches depending on the reference point and setup.

Cab 11299 raises the finished profile to about 72 inches at the cab.

John Deere 318 Garden Tractor

The John Deere 318 is one of Deere's best-known 300 Series garden tractors. It was produced from 1983 through 1992 in Horicon, Wisconsin.

Deere gave the 318 hydrostatic drive, hydraulic power steering, and hydraulic equipment functions. As a result, the tractor could handle a wide range of lawn and garden jobs.

It uses a two-wheel-drive chassis.

Early John Deere 318 Onan B43G Engine

Early John Deere 318 tractors use an Onan B43G gasoline engine. It is an air-cooled, two-cylinder opposed twin.

Displacement is about 709 cc, or 43.3 cubic inches. Deere's published engine rating is 18 horsepower.

This engine served the early 318 production range.

Later John Deere 318 Onan P218G Engine

Later John Deere 318 tractors use the Onan P218G. This two-cylinder, air-cooled gasoline engine has about 781 cc of displacement.

Published gross output remains 18 horsepower. In addition, the P218G has a larger displacement than the early B43G.

The production change occurred for the later tractor serial range beginning in 1987.

John Deere 318 Hydrostatic Transmission

The 318 uses a shaft-driven Sundstrand hydrostatic transmission. Therefore, travel speed can change smoothly in forward or reverse.

That feature is useful when mowing around obstacles or changing direction during snow removal.

Use a travel speed that matches ground and attachment conditions.

John Deere 318 Power Steering

Hydraulic power steering is a key feature of the John Deere 318. It reduces the effort needed to guide the tractor.

That can be useful when front equipment adds weight to the machine. However, proper ballast remains important.

Follow John Deere instructions for the complete attachment setup.

John Deere 318 Hydraulic System

The 318 uses tractor hydraulics for steering and equipment functions. Published information lists two front hydraulic control valves.

This system helped make the 318 useful with several compatible attachments. Therefore, the tractor could serve in more roles than basic mowing.

Inspect old hydraulic hoses before heavy use.

John Deere 318 Fuel Capacity

Published specifications list a 4.5-gallon fuel tank for the John Deere 318. That equals about 17 liters.

The Onan engine uses gasoline. So, refuel outdoors with the engine shut off.

Keep fuel away from sparks and hot surfaces.

John Deere 318 Dimensions

The John Deere 318 has a wheelbase of about 46 inches. Overall tractor length is roughly 68.5 inches.

Published width is about 44 inches. Open-station tractor height is about 44 inches, depending on configuration.

Always measure the actual tractor after Cab 11299 is installed.

John Deere 318 Weight

Published tractor weight is roughly 780 pounds before the weight of many attachments and accessories is added.

A mower deck, blade, snowblower, weights, chains, cab, and other equipment increase real machine weight. Therefore, use the complete setup when planning transport.

Never size a trailer from bare tractor weight alone.

John Deere 316 and 318 Tire Sizes

Common lawn and turf tire specifications include 16x6.50-8 front tires and 23x10.50-12 rear tires.

However, an older tractor may now use replacement tires in another approved size or tread. Tire choice can change traction and actual machine height.

Check your tractor before ordering chains or other tire equipment.

John Deere 316 and 318 PTO Equipment

These garden tractors were designed to power compatible equipment. The front PTO uses an independent electric clutch.

A rear PTO was also available for certain applications. Thus, these tractors could support more than a mower deck.

Use only equipment suited to the exact tractor and PTO setup.

Mower Deck Options

John Deere offered several mower configurations for the 300 Series during its production life. Exact deck fit depends on model, year, and attachment hardware.

That makes the tractor serial number important when buying used or replacement equipment.

Never assume every 316 and 318 attachment interchanges.

Snowblower and Blade Use

Compatible snowblowers and front blades helped make the 316 and 318 useful through winter. Those attachments are also a major reason owners still add weather cabs to these tractors.

Cab 11299 does not increase the machine's attachment rating. Therefore, use the correct hitch, lift parts, weights, and other equipment for your tractor.

Follow the John Deere attachment instructions.

John Deere 316 Versus John Deere 318

The 316 and 318 share many basic traits. Both are two-wheel-drive garden tractors with Onan gasoline engines and hydrostatic transmissions.

However, the 318 adds features such as hydraulic power steering and greater hydraulic control. The 316 uses a simpler layout.

Cab 11299 was designed to fit both listed tractor applications.

The History of Original Tractor Cab Company

Original Tractor Cab Co., Inc. traces its story to 1939. At that time, Indiana farmer Stanley Williams needed better protection from harsh weather.

So, Stanley made a cab for his own tractor. Other farmers soon saw the value in his idea.

That simple farm solution became the start of an American manufacturing business.

Born From a Real Need on the Farm

Original Tractor Cab did not start with a product made in a boardroom. Instead, the idea came from real farm work.

Stanley Williams knew what it was like to sit on an open tractor in rain, wind, snow, and cold. Therefore, operator weather protection had clear value.

Other farmers faced the same problem.

From One Tractor Cab to a Business

Farmers began asking for cabs of their own. As interest grew, Stanley's practical design moved beyond his own tractor.

Demand helped turn the idea into a business. Soon, the company was making weather products for outdoor equipment operators.

The company dates its beginning to 1939.

Original Tractor Cab During World War II

World War II changed the young company's work. Normal tractor cab production stopped during the war period.

Instead, the company shifted its manufacturing work to support the military. Original Tractor Cab made backpacks and other needed goods.

After the war, the company returned to products for people who work outdoors.

Growing With New Outdoor Equipment

Farm and lawn equipment changed through the following decades. Therefore, Original Tractor Cab changed with it.

The company moved beyond early farm tractor cabs. Products for lawn tractors, garden tractors, snow equipment, and other machines joined the line.

That growth brought weather protection to more types of equipment.

Cab Products for Lawn and Garden Tractors

Garden tractors became capable machines for year-round property care. They could mow in summer, move leaves in fall, and handle snow equipment in winter.

Yet the open operator station still left the driver exposed. So, model-fit weather enclosures became useful products for these machines.

Cab 11299 continues that part of the Original Tractor Cab story.

Weather Protection Beyond Winter

The company's products also grew beyond cold-weather enclosures. Sunshades added another way to give operators useful coverage.

As a result, Original Tractor Cab could help equipment owners in both hot and cold seasons.

Today, the range includes cabs, enclosures, sunshades, and related accessories.

Three Generations of the Williams Family

The Williams family carried Original Tractor Cab through three generations. Each generation worked with new machines and changing customer needs.

However, the basic goal stayed simple. Build practical products for people who work outdoors.

That same goal still guides the company.

Made in the USA Since 1939

Original Tractor Cab remains based in Arlington, Indiana. American manufacturing remains an important part of the company story.

More than eight decades have passed since Stanley Williams built his first tractor cab. Yet rain, snow, sleet, wind, and sun still affect outdoor work.

Therefore, the need behind the first cab remains easy to understand.

Cab 11299 Carries the Idea Forward

The John Deere 316 and 318 came decades after Stanley built his first cab. Still, their operators face the same basic weather.

Hardtop Cab 11299 applies the company's long-running idea to these classic garden tractors. It adds practical weather coverage while helping owners keep useful older machines at work.
