John Deere X500 Series All-Weather Cab for Rain, Snow, Sleet and Wind
Cold rain can soak your coat. Snow can blow into your face. Wind can chill your hands. So, even a short task can feel like a long day.
Our hardtop cab helps shield you from these harsh elements. The roof covers your head. Clear panels help block wind from the front, back and sides. Also, two doors help enclose the seat area.
This cab gives you a way to use your John Deere lawn tractor in more types of weather. Yet it does not heat or seal the operator area like a factory cab.
Stay More Dry During Rain and Sleet
Wet weather can make lawn and yard work less pleasant. Rain may soak your clothes. Sleet can sting your face. But a hardtop cab can help keep much of that weather off the operator.
The ABS plastic roof sheds water from above. Clear front and side panels help block wind-driven rain. Thus, you gain more cover than an open tractor seat can give.
Keep Snow and Cold Wind Off the Operator
Snow work often takes place on the coldest days. Wind can blow loose snow toward your seat. Also, a snow blower may send fine snow back into the air.
Cab 11606 helps keep much of that snow and wind away from your body. So, you can focus more on the path ahead and less on the cold air.
Use the cab with compatible John Deere snow tools only. Check each mount and control before you begin work.
Get Shade from the Hot Summer Sun
Hot sun can make long hours on a mower feel harsh. The hard roof helps block direct sun from above. So, the cab can offer shade as well as cold weather cover.
Still, a full cab can trap heat on warm days. Use proper airflow and stop work if you feel too hot. The cab does not have built-in air conditioning.
John Deere X500 Hardtop Cab 11606 Features and Benefits
Hard ABS Plastic Roof
The cab has a firm ABS plastic roof. It helps shed rain and snow. Plus, it adds shade when the sun is high.
A metal tube frame holds the roof and side panels in place. Thus, the cab forms a weather enclosure around the operator.
Clear Lexan Windows for a Wide View
A good view is vital when you mow or clear snow. Our cab uses clear, shatter-resistant Lexan plastic in the front, rear and doors.
The clear panels help you see the work area. Also, the front panel slopes forward to help cut glare and reduce contact with falling rain and snow.
Keep the panels clean and free of ice. Then, check your view before you move the tractor.
Hinged Doors on Both Sides
Cab 11606 has a door on each side. Each door has hinges and a latch. So, you can get in and out with less effort.
The doors help block wind and blowing snow. Plus, the clear door panels let you see much of the ground beside the tractor.
Tough Vinyl Weather Panels
The cab uses strong vinyl fabric with clear window panels. This helps form a light weather cover around the metal frame.
The vinyl resists normal outdoor wear. Yet sharp limbs and rough tools can still cause damage. So, keep the cab clear of low trees and sharp objects.
Optional Glass Windshield
The standard cab uses a clear plastic front window. However, you can choose an optional safety glass windshield.
Glass gives you another choice for wet and cold weather use. Plus, it works with a compatible electric wiper kit.
Optional Electric Windshield Wiper
Rain and wet snow can block your view. So, an electric wiper can be a useful upgrade.
The wiper kit needs the optional glass windshield. It is not for use on the standard plastic front panel.
Optional Mirrors and Work Lights
Some jobs call for more light or a better side view. Mirror kits can help you check nearby areas.
Work lights can help you see in dim light. Also, a warning light may help make the tractor more visible.
These add-ons are sold apart from the base cab. Check the fit of each kit before you buy.
John Deere X500 Series Cab 11606 Fitment and Model Compatibility
Which John Deere Lawn Tractors Fit Cab 11606?
Cab 11606 fits select John Deere X500, X520, X530, X534 and X540 lawn tractors. These models belong to the earlier X500 Series range.
Fit depends on the model year, steering system and tractor setup. So, check the installation guide before you buy.
The Cab 11606 manual also lists the X534. Since this model has four-wheel steering, confirm all steering and cab clearances before use.
Cab 11606 is not the same as the newer Cab 12060. So, do not assume that both cabs fit the same model years.
Cab 11606 and the Newer X500 Series
John Deere changed its X500 Series model range in 2016. As a result, newer tractors may need a different cab or mount parts.
Original Tractor Cab offers a conversion kit for certain Cab 11606 setups. Kit 12048 helps adapt the older cab to select 2016 X500 models.
The conversion kit does not make every tractor model compatible. Also, it does not fit four-wheel steer models.
See our John Deere X500 Cab Conversion Kit 12048 for more details.
If you own a John Deere X570, X580 or X590 from 2016 or newer, see our John Deere X500 Series Hardtop Cab 12060 .
Easy Installation with No Holes to Drill
Cab 11606 uses existing tractor mount points. So, the normal installation does not call for new holes in the tractor.
Plan about three to four hours for a typical first installation. Yet the time may vary with your tools and skill level.
Start by reading the full guide. Next, lay out the frame, roof, panels and hardware. Then, follow the steps in order.
Check each bolt, door and latch when the job is done. Also, make sure the pedals and steering work with no block or bind.
Find the guide on our Original Tractor Cab Installation Manuals page. Choose Cab 11606.
Cab Height and Overhead Clearance
The listed cab height is 74 inches. However, your final tractor height can vary with tires, ground clearance and tractor setup.
Measure your tractor after you install the cab. Then, check garage doors, sheds and low tree limbs before you drive beneath them.
Cab Care and Storage
Good care can help your cab last. Keep the clear panels free of grit and dust. Also, check each bolt from time to time.
Follow the manual's cleaning rules for clear plastic. Do not use rough cloths, brushes or harsh cleaners that may scratch the windows.
The cab manual calls for vinyl panels to come off before transport on an open truck or trailer. So, remove them as the guide directs.
